Lavinia Stamps Fairy Thistle on "Pods" stencilled background

I've continued my play with Lavinia Stamps making this quick card.

I coated a 4' x 4" piece of card with pale blue "Tumbled Glass" Distress Oxide Ink.  I then lay the new Lavinia Stamps "Pods" stencil over the top and used "Peacock Feathers" Distress Oxide Ink through the stencil to create the background pattern.

I decided to use a stamp I have had for a long time but not used for some time, the Lavinia Stamps "Fairy Thistle", which I stamped in Versafine Clair  Medieval Blue ink.  I used a Lawn Fawn "Hello" sentiment and stamped it in the same ink.

I coloured the Fairy Thistle pods using two shades of Distress Oxide Inks:  Peackcock Feathers and Wilted Violet.  I then gave them a little sparkle, using a silver glitter Signo Pen.  Unfortunately the sparkle doesn't really show up in the photo, but it is there.

Lavinia Stamps "Flo" Mixed Media Card

I seem to have managed to gather lots of bits and bobs on my desk, so I've gathered them together in bags of different colours.  These are some of the bits in my blue/turquoise bag.

Obviously, the colours lend themselves to a watery themed projects, so I decided to bite the bullet and use some of them.

If you've followed my blog for a while, you will be aware that I really struggle to be informal with my makes.  Everything tends to be very formal and thought goes in to the position of pieces.  I just can't do informal. So making this type of project is a big thing to me.

A friend told me a couple of days ago, to just try to empty your head and position things without thinking.  I tried, but I just can't do it.  This is as random as I can get!

The central image is one of the new Lavinia Stamps called "Flo" the fish.  I've also used smaller versions of "Flo" which are part of the Lavinia "Fish Set".

I've also used the new "Marine Kelp" stamp, the "Mini Sea Urchin", the "Zen Plant"  and an off cut of a piece I made months ago which has the "Bonnet Set" stamped in two shades.

Lavinia Stamps "Zelith" Under Water Scene

I've been playing with the new Lavinia Stamps again, creating this card.

I started by covering the background in pale shades of blues.  I then lay the new Lavinia Stamps "Coral" stencil over and added an extra layer of colour using "Peacock Feathers" Distress Oxide inks.

I've used lots of different Lavinia Stamps for the undergrowth, including Marine Kelp, Sea Algae, Mystic Swirl, and the hair from "Astrid.

I've used the Mermaid called "Zelith" for the focal point, stamped in Versafine Clair  "Medieval Blue".

I multi stamped the Lavinia Stamps "Urchins" then cut the shapes and coloured them, over lapping them to give the impression of the ocean bed.

I used the Lavinia Stamps "Fish Set", "Flo" and their "Sea Creatures Set" for the fish.

Lavinia Stamps "Zelith" on a gell plate background

I'm continuing my play with the lovely new Lavinia Stamps that arrived this week.  I have to say they are all absolutely stunning.  The detail in the stamps is amazing.

I had a look in my folder of preprepared backgrounds and found a 6" gel plate circle that I'd made a while back.  It was greens and greys and to be honest a bit dull, which was why it was still in my folder.  I decided to use it regardless.

I popped a piece of copy paper over the background and drew the circle, then cut the middle area out so that I could colour the central image without getting inky finger marks all over the surrounding white area.

I used a selection of pinks, greens and blue Distress Oxide Inks to liven the background up a bit.

I then stamped the beautiful "Zelith" in position using Versafine Clair "Morning Mist" ink, I used the same ink for the "Mini Sea Urchin",  I deliberately had her tail hanging over the edge of the circle to add a little more interest.

I then used a fan brush and water to splatter droplets in the areas I wanted them, (behind her body), I then mopped them up with a piece of kitchen roll which reveals a lovely air bubbly look.

I used two Distress Oxide Inks, Spun Sugar and Faded Jeans to colour in the body area of Zelith.  I then used a white Signo pen and a silver glitter Signo pen to add highlights to the hair, tail etc.

I moved on to the lower section of the circle and decided to create a landscape, using the edge of a torn piece of copy paper.

I multi stamped the hair of "Astrid", in Versafine Clair Verdant and Shady Lane ink, to create the impression of reeds waving in the water.

I then stamped the "Marine Kelp" and the "Sea Algae" in Versafine Clair "Shady Lane" green ink.

Lavinia Stamps Jalandhar jelly fish Card

I've been playing with more of the new Lavinia Stamps today.  This card features "Jalandhar" the jelly fish.

I started with a Brusho background I had prepared some time back.  It had a white border, so I decided to colour it using two shades of Distress Oxide Inks:  Peacock Feathers and Broken China.

I then stamped the main image "Jalandhar" in Versafine Clair "Warm Breeze" ink.  Around the bottom half of the card I used the hair from the new stamp called "Astrid" to replicate reeds waving in the water.  I stamped in two shades of Versafine Clair Ink:  "Verdant" (the lighter shade) and "Shady Lane" (the darker shade).

I then stamped the sentiment using the "Deeper than the ocean" sentiment in "Warm Breeze" Versafine Clair ink.

I stamped the bubbles using Versafine Clair "Morning Mist" ink with the "Sea Bubbles" stamp set.

I used a white Signo Pen to highlight areas of the jelly fish and the bubbles.  I finally added Ranger "Glossy Accents" to the body of "Jalandhar" and left to dry over night.

I removed the mask over the face and coloured the image using "Peacock Feathers" Distress Oxide Ink for the eye area and "Tattered Rose" for the skin.  I used "Antique Linen" and "Wild Honey" Distress Oxide Inks for the hair.

Lavinia Stamps "Althea" Under Water Tag

Today I have been stalking my Postie, so that I can open my Lavinia Stamps order of lots of fabulous new stamps and stencils.  Fortunately it arrived and I didn't waste any time in making a project using some of the stamps.

In readiness for this delivery, I had created a couple of backgrounds.  To be honest, these stamps are large, so a little more restrictive on the placing of the stamp on these tag backgrounds.

The background of this tag is created by blending shades of Distress Oxide Inks.  I have used the new Lavinia Stamp called "Althea" as the main feature of the tag, stamped in Versafine Clair "Nocturne" black ink.

I then created the backgroud, (masking the tail of the mermaid) and multi stamping another new Lavinia Stamp called "Sea Tangle" using Versafine Clair "Twilight" a dark blue ink.

I stamped the "Mini Sea Urchin" to give the impression that the mermaid is holding it in her hand.

I added highlights and sparkle using a white Signo Pen, a silver glitter Signo Pen and a matt metallic silver pen.

On an off cut of white card, I stamped the same shape, using the same coloured ink then coated it with Wow! clear embossing powder and heat set.  Once cooled, I used a blending tool to colour the inner area of the shape using the same "Victorian Velvet" ink.  I then fussy cut the shape.

Background Cling Film Technique

I've seen several posts recently mentioning a "cling film technique", there appear to be different ways of doing it, so I though I would try it myself.

I used a foam paint brush with clean water to totally saturate the plain white card.  Using a piece of cling film, I dabbed on various shades of Distress Oxide Ink pads, lightly scrunched the film then positioned on top of the wet card and left for a couple of hours.  I then lifted the film off and blotted any damp puddles with a corner of kitchen roll then left to dry.

I did the same using Distress Oxide Inks spray, which resulted in stronger coloured backgrounds.

Brusho Wax Resist Stick Backgrounds

I recently purchased a pack of Brusho Wax Resist Sticks and had a play with them to create these backgrounds, ready to be stamped on.  An on-line video by Eileen Godwin inspired to me to give it a try.

I used one of the crayon like sticks to draw lines on a blank tag.  I then used various shades of Distress Oxide Inks.  The crayon lines do not take up the ink, leaving the original drawn design.
