Week 30 - 52 Week Mini Art Card / Tag Challenge 2019

The challenge prompt for Week 30 is "Use red and black".

For my tag, I started off with a cream coloured plain tag.  I swooshed the tag through three shades of Distress Oxides (Antique Linen, Brushed Corduroy and Gathered Twigs) to give a mottled background look.

I used a Distress Oxide in the shade of "Barn Door" through an Inkylicious large shell stencil.

Using a script stamp from a Stampin' Up stamp set called "By The Tide" I randomly stamped the script using a Versafine Clair ink in the shade of "Morning Mist".

I stamped the Visible Image sentiment, using their "Laugh Louder" stamp in Versafine Clair "Nocturne".  Using the same ink, I stamped the patterns around the edge of the tag using a Stampers Anonymous set, finally, I inked the edges of the tag.

Week 12 - 52 Week Mini Art Card / Tag Challenge 2019

The prompt for Week 12 is "Kraft".

For some reason my kraft cardstock was in hiding, so I used a piece of brown paper to cover a tag instead.  For a previous project I had tea stained some book pages, so I decided to tear one up and apply over the kraft base.

Using a small script stamp from a Stampin' Up set called "By The Tide" I stamped the writing in various positions using Versafine "Vintage Sepia" Ink.  From the same set, there was a stamp with some coral, so I stamped that in Versafine Clair "Chianti" ink.

I stamped the Woodware "Teasels - JGS329" on to the tag, using Versafine Clair "Acorn" shade of ink.  I then inked the edges of the tag in a red and a black ink.  Finally, I added a little bit of co-ordinating trim, some metallic sequins and a tea-stained piece of string to hang the tag.

Week 30 - 52 Week Mini Art Card / Tag Challenge 2018

The prompt for Week 30 is "Seaside / Sealife"
The prompt seems particularly apt as the children in our area have just finished school for the six week summer break.  I made two tags for the challenge this week, both are quite different to each other.

The first tag fits "Sealife" better than "Seaside".  I used water colour paper and stamped the lobster, shell and seaweed using a Stampin' Up set called "By The Tide".  I then used Brusho to paint the background.  I added additional detail using a couple of Lavinia Stamps.

The second tag is coloured with Promparkers.  The stamps I have used on this tag were free from Issue 59 of the "Creative Stamping" magazine.

Sunshine Wishes Anniversary Card

Today I found out that our friends celebrate their anniversary tomorrow, so I made a quick card this evening.

I used Distress Oxides for the main background and inked the edges with Distress Inks.  I then stamped the two text areas using a stamp from the Stampin' Up "By The Tide" set.

I then used my Big Shot to die cut the heart and the love word.  For these I used Stampin' Up "Expressions Thinlits" and "Sunshine Wishes" sets.  I then punched some hearts from the same colour card and added some sticky backed bling crystals.

Week 3 - 52 Week Mini Art Card / Tag Challenge 2018

The prompt for Week 3 is "Pond Life".

Just a reminder, that anybody can take part in this challenge.  There is an active Facebook group where you can upload your tag/card and talk to other members who are taking part.  There is no pressure.  You do what you can, when you can.  I usually post the new prompts on a Sunday or Monday, depending on what I'm up to. The previous prompts can be found by clicking on the tab next to the "Home" button, just below the title.

For my tag, I attempted to replicate the sparkly-ness of a pond when the light catches the water.  I started by using Distress Oxide inks to create the background of the tag.

I use a Memorybox die called "Honeycomb Background" to cut the black cardstock.  I decided I would leave some of the shapes in and remove others and stuck it over the coloured background.  Using a Stampin' Up stamp from the "By The Tide" set, I added a couple of areas of stamping text.

I then moved on to die stamp and die cut the dragonfly, using the Stampin' Up set called "Dragonfly Dreams" and "Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits".  I finally added some pretty shimmery sequins to add to the water look.

Week 2 - 52 Week Mini Art Card / Tag Challenge 2018

There has been a fabulous response to the start of the 2018 challenge.  You can see the tags made by checking out the Facebook group.  The prompts for previous weeks and the ones for the 2017 challenge can be found by clicking the button to the right of the "home" button below the blog title. You are more than welcome to join in this challenge.  There is no pressure, do as much or as little as you like.

The prompt for Week 2 is "Vintage / shabby".  I wanted to leave it quite loose so that you don't feel under too much pressure.

Here's my example for the Week 2 prompt.  I had a few ideas in my head about what I wanted to include for this tag.

Firstly I started with a section of cotton weave canvas which I inked, scrunched then re-inked and then ironed flat.  I then got a cream coloured tag and inked the edges in darker shades.  I used a little tool to distress the edges a little too.

I have never used my sewing machine on a papercrafting project, but decide to ring the changes and sew the canvas layer onto the distressed tag, (I deliberately made the stitching quite rough and did not adjust the tension so it wasn't very even).  I then stamped some text and also used a coral/seaweed stamp from a Stampin' Up set called "By The Tide".

At this stage, I paused for a few hours as I couldn't formulate how I wanted to move forward. Firstly, I layered and stuck down two layers of lace with a frayed end, down the middle of the tag. I found a section of an old die cut in red and positioned it at the top of the tag.

I decided to die cut a wreath using Stampin' Up "Swirly Scribbles" die.  I punched some foliage using a Martha Stewart punch and found some small white paper roses in my stash.

I stamped the bird (I'm not sure what the stamp set is as I purchased it second hand) and then coloured it in using Promarkers.  I then positioned it with sticky foam pads on top of the wreath so it has a 3D look.  Finally, I knotted some thread through a wooden heart shaped button and then stuck it down.

I hope you enjoy the challenge.  Have a good week.  Sam x

Below The Surface Tag (Distress Inks and Stampin' Up)

Today I have been playing with Stampin' Up stamps making this tag.

I've used a mix of Distress Ink colours to create the seascape background.  The jellyfish is from the Stampin' Up set called "From Land To Sea.  On the edges of the tag, I have used another stamp from the Stampin' Up set called "By The Tide".  I have inked the edges and added white dots using a Signo pen. Finally, I added self adhesives alpha stickers to make up the words.

Butterfly Life (Tim Holtz style) Tag

I'm up early, once again I couldn't sleep with my mind throwing thoughts about, so decided to get up and create.

This tag started off with a background of green, grey and yellow Tim Holtz Distress Inks.

I used a Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous "Butterfly Melange - THJ002" stamp for the central section of the tag.  I used a music score from the same stamp set in a couple of areas too.

I then used a couple of stamps from the Stampin' Up "Gorgeous Grunge" set to create red and dark grey splatters across the surface of the tag. Using a seaweed/coral stamp from Stampin' Up "By The Tide" set, I stamped at the bottom and on the top left hand side.  I used a Paperartsy "Life" word stamp in that corner too.

Finally, I gently inked red areas, drifting across the tag from edge to edge.  I used black ink to darken the edges of the tag too.

P.S.  The little dome things I've added to the surface, are actually things to put underneath ornament type items to stop them scratching your surfaces.  They're self adhesive and can be purchased very cheaply from hardward stores.  I got mine in Wilko.

Week 32 - 52 Week Mini Art Card / Tag Challenge 2017

These weeks are coming round far too quickly. The prompt for Week 32 is "The Ocean".

For my tag, I started off with a blended background of Tim Holtz distress inks.  I then stamped the turtle (and made a mask too) using the Stampin' Up set called "From Land To Sea".  Using a stamp from the Stampin' Up set called "By The Tide" I stamped the seaweed, masking that area I then used a Stamper's Anonymous stamp to create the rays and the dotty edges.  To add further definition to the central area, I inked the edges of the tag.

I finished the tag, by die cutting an anchor, added two metal fish embellishments and small pale blue gem stones to replicate air bubbles in the water.

Don't forget, If you are following this challenge, I would love to see your creations.  You could follow the challenge on Facebook too by clicking on this link.

"Wishing You Well" (By The Tide) Card

Idly playing with paper while listening to the TV, I made this card.

The textured section uses the Stampin' Up "Seaside" embossing folder.  The sea shells are stamps from the "By The Tide" Stampin' Up set.  The sentiment is a stamp produced by Papertrey Ink and is part of their "Everyday Classics" set.

Thinking Of You Today Card (Stampin' Up By The Tide)

For this card I used a prepared Panpastel background in shades of lemon, greens and mauves.

First I stamped the weeds at the base of the card.  I used a Unity Stamp Co stamp from the set called "Fishy Philosophy".  Both the seahorse and the fish are stamps from the Stampin' Up set called "By The Tide".  The sentiment is a Papertrey Ink stamp from their set called "Every Day Classics" which I die cut using a Spellbinder die.  I finished the card off by adding some clear crystal gems to provide the impression of air bubbles.

Celebrate Fish Card

I've been trying to source a retired Stampin' Up set called "By The Tide" for a while. It seems it is a little like Hens teeth - pretty elusive, unless your prepared to pay an extortionate amount and get it from America, with the added customs charges it makes it an expensive set. Anyway, I now have a set, do I didn't waste any time in having a play.

For this card I have used a Panpastel background, stamping the fish on an off-cut and then cutting around it so that different shades are on the fish

I used a sentiment from the Stampin' Up set called "Goid Greetings".
