Funky Fossil Designs "Stencils Unlocked" Techniques - Day 1, technique B

This is my second make of Funky Fossil Designs "Stencils Unlocked Techniques from Day 1. If you'd like to know more, take a look at their page on this link.

I used three shades of Distress Oxide Spray Inks for the background colour.  The colours I used are: Cracked Pistacchio, Mermaid Lagoon and Speckled Egg.  It took a really long time to by fully dry, so even after big blasts from the heat gun, I left it over night.

Over the each end of the coloured card, I lay the Funky Fossil Designs "Mechanical Stencil", applying "Heavy Glossy Body Gel" by Pentart through areas of the stencil.

I then pinched small amounts of embossing powders between my fingers and sprinkled over the surface. The three colours of Wow! Embossing Powders I used are:  Lavaburst, Angel Eyes and Blueberry.  I then heat set with the heat gun.

Top Tip:  when using the heat gun, keep it moving over the surface of the embossed area.  If you hold in one place for too long, the medium and powders can bubble - great if you want more texture but not so good if you are wanting it relatively smooth!

Tiffany Johnson Creative #100daysartplay Challenge - Day 7

Here is my Day 7 make for the Tiffany Johnson Creative #100daysartplay challenge.  I have sprayed ink through a stencil.

On a piece of dark blue card, I sprayed "Salvaged Patina" Distress Oxide Spray Ink through the Funky Fossil "Mandala Magic" stencil.  Once dry, I realised it was quite patchy, so decided to fussy cut out the stronger coloured mandala pattern.

On a white piece of card, I used the same 'Salvaged Patina" colour, but this time a Distress Oxide Ink pad, applying the ink through the Funky Fossil "Mandala Magic" stencil.

I cut the white card down to 4"x4" and stuck the fussy cut design on top of the white card. Then mounted it on to dark blue card to create a frame and then on to a Kraft card blank.

Next, using Versafine Clair "Twilight" dark blue ink, I stamped the sentiment, which is part of a stamp set called "Stripped Back Sentiments" by Funky Fossil Designs.

Finally, I added some sticky backed pearls to areas of the mandala, I also outlined a few areas with a gel pen.

Tiffany Johnson Creative #100daysartplay Challenge - Day 6

This is my make for Day 6 of the Tiffany Johnson Creative #100daysartplaychallenge.  I've used spray inks to stamp an image.

I used four shades of Distress Oxide Sprays:  Salvaged Patina, Mermaid Lagoon, Blueprint Sketch and Twisted Citreon to stamp (using a Misti) the bird image,  which is part of the Visible Image "Life is beautiful" stamp set.

Once dry, I used "Shaded Lilac" Distress Oxide Ink through the Visible Image "Strobes" stencil.  I inked the edges with the same ink and then used Versafine Clair "Monarch" purple ink to ink the edges again.

The sentiments is part of the same stamp set and stamped again in Versafine Clair "Monarch" purple ink.

Tiffany Johnson Creative #100daysartplay Challenge - Day 5

This is my Day 5 make of the Tiffany Johnson Creative #100daysartplay Challenge.  Today I have used Distress Oxide Spray Ink with a mask.

I decided to used "Wilted Violet" Distress Oxide Ink on a dark blue coloured card.  I positioned the Funky Fossil Designs "Bubble Mask" over the top of the card, then lightly spritzed the ink over the top.

Once dry, I cut the card to size and mounted on to dark blue card and then on to a white card blank.

I used Versafine Clair "Monarch" purple ink to stamp the greeting, using the Funky Fossil Designs "Stripped Back Sentiment" stamp set, stamped on to white card.  I trimmed the sentiment to size and then stuck it to the centre of the card using foam pads so that it was elevated.

Finally, I added a few dots of Ranger White Enamel Accents to break up the darker colour.

Tiffany Johnson Creative #100daysartplay Challenge - Day 1

I recently came across a challenge by one of the people I follow on Instagram.  It's organised by Tiffany Johnson Creative, you can find her on both Instagram and Facebook.  The challenge is to create to prompts for one hundred days and the challenge starts today, the 18th February 2024. I decided I would try to keep up with the challenge, so requested a list of the prompts.

This is my Day 1 art play.  I used three shades of Distress Oxide Spray Inks to create the background, using Salvaged Patina, Squeezed Lemonade and Saltwater Taffy coloured spray inks.  I spritzed the inky surface allowing the colours to merge and then lay a piece of white card over the top, this gave me two mirror image backgrounds instead of one.

Once dry, I used one of the backgrounds to make the card at the top of this post. I used the Lavinia Stamps "Dynamic Stencil" with "Salvaged Patina" and Saltwater Taffy" Distress Oxide inks to create the pattern.

In the middle of the card, I stamped the Waffle Flower "Thinking of you" greeting, which is part of their "Essential Sentiments" stamp set, stamped in Versafine Clair "Twilight" dark blue ink.

I used the same ink to edge the card and then stamp the foliage, which is part of the Penny Black "Serene 30-472" clear stamp set.

I mounted the card on to dark blue card and then on to a white card blank.  Finally, adding some dots of black Ranger Enamel Accents.

Funky Fossil "Doodle Blooms" Card

Yesterday, I played creating a grungy, mixed media kind of background, which resulted in making this card.

I started with a piece of sand coloured card.  I tore a book page into sections and glued it on to the coloured card and left to dry.

I then spritzed it with two shades of Distress Oxide Ink Spray:  Speckled Egg and Broken China.  I left it to dry again.

I then used the Funky Fossil Designs "Musings" clear stamp set with Versafine Clair "Warm Breeze" ink to stamp the letters.

I used Versafine Clair "Tulip Red" ink through the Funky Fossil Designs "Dots and Dashes stencil", circling the dashes with a red Posca Pen to add more definition to the edges of the dashes.

I die cut three seedheads using the Funky Fossil Designs "Doodle Blooms Die" in white card.

Finally, I used a sentiment from the Funky Fossil Designs "Small Print 2 stamp set", stamped in Versafine Clair "Warm Breeze" ink and die cut it into a banner.

Penny Black Inc "Sprigs 30-284" card

I've used a small off-cut of a previous project (using Distress Oxide Spray Inks) for the background of this card.

I've stamped the Penny Black Inc "Sprigs 30-294" clear stamp set, stamped in Versafine Clair "Nocturne" black ink.  I've used a white gel pen for highlights.

Lavinia Stamps "The Hare Glade"

I couldn't sleep last night, so after two hours in bed, I decided to get up.  I wasn't in the mood to read or watch tv, instead I watched a video tutorial on Youtube by the super talented Lisa Taggart (this is the video I watched).  Lisa is on the Lavinia Stamps Design Team and creates some fabulous images.

I used a background I had in my stash made of Distress Oxide Spray inks as I thought it would be suitable for this project.

I used a selection of Pan Pastels, Versafine Clair Inks for stamping and of course the fabulous Lavinia Stamps too.

After watching the tutorial, I made my own version, similar but not as polished as the one that Lisa created, I'm happy with it all the same.  It allowed me to while away a couple of very pleasant hours.

Visible Image "Break Free" Daisy Tag

I had decided to have a day off crafting, but found myself drawn to my craft desk, so decided to make a little tag.

I used a tag with a Distress Oxide Spray background that I had prepared a while back, I had already used the Visible Image "Meshine Around" stencil on it, so that really dictated the way I went with the whole tag.

I used the Visible Image "Break Free" stamp set for the vase and flower, coloured with Distress Oxide Inks.

In the background I used the dotty circles from the Visible Image "Creative Chaos" stamp set and the straight lines form the Visible Image "Shape it up" stamp set.  The words are from the Visible Image "Random Art of Kindness" stamp set, all stamped in Versafine Ink.

I added some white areas to the dots, which turned pale blue due to the base, using a Posca Pen.

Visible Image "Robot Data" Birthday Card

I've had a play with the Visible Image "Robot Data" stamp set today, making this card.

For the background, I used black card, splattered with "Spiced Marmalade" and "Picked Raspberry" Distress Oxide Spray Ink.  I added extra splatters by tapping white and blue Posca Pens.

I stamped the robot and other areas using Versafine Clair "Nocturne" ink.  I then stamped the robot again on a piece of white card.

I coloured the robot image on the white card using Arteza Inkonic Pens, I then cut the image out, went around the edges with a black sharpie pen (so there were no white edges) and adhered over the one on the card.

Visible Image "Don't Judge" Tag

I used two Distress Oxide Spray inks to create the background of this tag (Peeled Paint on the lower half and "Faded Jeans" at the top).

I tore a page from an old book and coloured it with two shades of Distress Oxide Inks (Spiced Marmalade and Abandoned Coral).  Using Versafine Clair "Nocturne" ink  and the Visible Image set called "Don't Judge", I then stamped two figures adding the fractured split up each figure and cut the shapes out.

I stamped a heart onto black card using the same ink and stamp set.

I used the Nocturne ink to add the dots and edging to the tags using the Visible Image "De-stressed" stamp set.

I adhered the heart into position and edged it with some silver stitching.  I then decided that I would only use one of the coloured figures, so flipped one and coloured it a grey tone.  I then glued the figures into position.

On a piece of grey card, I stamped the sentiment, cut it down to the size I wanted and adhered over the heart.

I decided the background needed a bit of a lift, so using a white Posca Pen added dots of various sizes.

Funky Fossil Designs January 2020 New Stamp Set Preview - Adventure

Funky Fossil Designs have got five new fabulous clear stamp sets being released at the end of the month. Here's a sneak peek of one of my makes using the "Adventure" set.  This set along with the other four will be available to purchase on their web site from 9am on Saturday 25th January 2020.

I used Distress Oxide Spray Inks in two shades (Cracked Pistachio and Faded Jeans) to create the background colour of this card.

I stamped the main image, birds and sentiment in Versafine Clair "Twilight" ink, I edged the inner section with the same ink too.

For the adventure banner across the bottom left corner, I used the Funky Fossil "Fierce" Stencil, again with Versafine Clair "Twilight" dark blue ink.

Lavinia Stamps August 2019 Monthly Challenge - Create Your Own Dream #2

On the first of each month, Lavinia Stamps announce a new monthly challenge theme.  The theme for August 2019 is "Create Your Own Dream".  If you enter and your name is drawn, after the 25th you could win £40 of vouchers to spend on Lavinia goodies.

This is a card that I have made as part of the Lavinia Stamps Design Team.

I used Distress Oxide Sprays to create the background, using Fossilised Amber, Spiced Marmalade and Faded Jeans shades.

Using Versafine Clair "Nocturne" ink,  I stamped the wolves Maka (the seated wolf) and Valko (the standing wolf).

I then masked off a circle for the sun and edged it with Versafine Clair "Morning Mist" ink.  Using the same ink, I created the landscape, by tearing a piece of paper and dragging the ink from the paper downwards, which I repeated several times with the paper in different positions. Using the same ink, I stamped the "Skeleton Tree".

Using Versafine Clair "Nocturne" ink again, I stamped the "Birds" and part of the "Embrace Your Dreams" sentiment.  Finally, I inked the edge of the card and then added some white high-lights to the wolves using a white Signo Pen.

Week 27 - 52 Week Mini Art Card / Tag Challenge 2019

The prompt for Week 27 is "Purple".

To create the coloured background of the tag, I used a Distress Oxide Spray called "Picked Raspberry for the top part of the tag.  On the lower area, I sprayed a Dylusion Ink Spray called "Crushed Grape".

I spritzed a Clarity stencil called "Orbit" with water and then flipped it on top of the tag.  The area where the stencil met the tag makes a bleached effect giving a different shade of colour which adds interest to the base.

Using Versafine Clair Ink in the shade of "Fantasia" I stamped the hands and sentiments, all part of a Visible Image stamp set called "You Are Not Alone".

Using a Distress Oxide ink in the shade of "Wilted violet" through a small diamond stencil, I created a relief pattern.

Using the Versafine Clair "Fantasia" ink again, I added the detail around the edge using a stamp from another Visible Image stamp set called "Ahead Of Our Time" and "Somewhere In Time".

Lavinia Stamps "Sky" Let Your Spirit Take Flight Card

I've made this card in stages.  I originally made the background about a month ago, using Disress Oxide ink pads and sprays, but it didn't suit what I had in mind, so put it back in my "to be used" pile.

I then decided to use a wet Tim Holtz "Rays" stencil to create a bleached ray look to the background.  Again it wasn't what I wanted, so put it back in the pile.

This evening, third time lucky, it was the ideal background for what I had in mind using Lavinia Stamps.  Using Versafine Clair "Shady Lane" ink, I stamped the "Twisted Willow" stamp.

Using the Versafine Clair "Chianti" shade of ink, I stamped the fairy called "Sky"

I then used a circle moon mask and darkened the edges and filled the inner using two shades of Distress Oxide Inks:  Wild Honey and Broken China. Using a Versafine Clair "Nocturne" ink I stamped the "Let Your Spirit Take Flight", breaking the sentiment into two lines, which I felt suited the card better.

I then moved on to filling the edge detail.  On the right hand side, I used the Versafine Clair Ink "Chianti" to stamp the "Seasonal Tree" branches.

On the left hand side of the card, I used two pound stamps "Mini Berry" and "Mini Leaf 5".  I used the "Mini Slender Mushrooms" on the tree trunk on the right hand side too.

I added white highlighted areas to the card using a Posca Pen and added some silver glitter to the wings using a Signo Pen.

Week 23 - 52 Week Mini Art Card / Tag Challenge 2019

The prompt for Week 23 is "Stencil"

For my tag, I started off with a manilla coloured tag and sprayed half of it with Distress Oxide Spray in the colour of "Vintage Photo".

Once the ink was dry, I used a Distress Ink in the shade of "Fired Brick" through a Funky Fossil stencil called "Leaf Mandala".  I then used the same ink through an Andy Skinner stencil called "Tornado".  I moved the stencil then applied a different colour called "Walnut Stain".

Using a Versafine Clair ink in the "Pine Cone" shade I stamped the Visible Image word "Dreamer" from their "Own It" set.

Using a Memento Ink in the shade of "Rhubarb Stalk", I stamped the Visible Image butterflies from their "Wings of Change" set on a piece of manilla card.  I cut around the shapes, added some metallic gold dots and then adhered to the tag.  Finally, I inked the edges of the tag in the "Fired Brick" shade of Distress Ink.

Visible Image "Creative Chaos" Tag 2

While the Visible Image "Creative Chaos" stamp set was still on my desk, I made this little tag to tie to a bunch of flowers.

It has a background of Distress Oxide Spray Inks in the shades of "Picked Raspberry" and "Iced Spruce".

Using the large flower from the "Creative Chaos" set, I stamped the flower head only onto the tag and then again onto a plain piece of white card.

Using the Visible Image "Go To Words" I stamped the "With Sympathy" as if it were the stem of the flower on the tag.

Returning to the flower head on the white card, I used my Prima Confections water colour paints, I painted the flower in a very pale blue/grey shade.  I then cut the flower head out and inked the edges using a black pen, then adhered it onto the tag over the already stamped flower head.

Week 20 - 52 Week Mini Art Card / Tag Challenge 2019

The prompt for Week 20 is "Buildings"

I decided to go with a fairy tale image for my tag by using a castle and dragon stamp.

I created the background using Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Sprays in "Faded Jeans" and  "Peeled Paint" shades.

I used Lavinia Stamps for this tag.  First I stamped the "Dragon Stone Castle" and the "Mini Dragon" in Versafine Clair "Nocturne" ink.

I then masked off a circle area for the moon and filled the area with Memento Luxe "Wedding Dress" ink.

Using two shades of Distress Inks:  "Peeled Paint" and "Forest Moss", I created the landscape in the foreground that the castle sits on by using a torn piece of card.  I then stamped the trees in Versafine Claire "Twilight", which are part of a set called "Tree Scene".

Finally I edged the tag in Versafine Clair "Twilight" ink and added stars and the edge of the moon using a Signo silver glitter pen.

Creating Tag Backgrounds

I usually have a whole stash of tag backgrounds that I can draw from, but I noticed the stock is very depleted.  Nothing was on TV last night that I was interested in, so I had a play with some spray inks.  I've used Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Spray (for the more dull coloured tags).  For the brighter tags I have used the Dylusions Ink Spray.  These should keep me going for a little while.

I've just randomly sprayed the colours onto the tags with no plan of how they will be used in future.

I also need to make more backgrounds for cards, which I find takes more time, so I may crack on with those this afternoon.

Have a good Tuesday.  Sam x

Funky Fossil Leafy Mandala Birthday Card with Tim Holtz Wild Flower Stem Dies

It's time for another birthday card, this time using die cuts.

I started off using a base of Distress Oxide Sprays in two shades:  Cracked Pistachio and Mermaid Lagoon.

Over the top of that I layered a Funky Fossil stencil called "Leafy Mandala" and used Distress Ink in the shade of "Pine Needle" through the stencil.

Using two set of Sizzix Tim Holtz Thinlits dies called "Wild Flower Stems" 1 & 2, I die cut the flowers using my Sizzix Big Shot.  I then coloured them using Distress inks and a blending tool.  I glued the coloured die cuts into postion and then stamped the sentiment in Versafine Clair ink in the shade of "Monarch".  The sentiment was part of a free stamp set that came with a magazine.
